New Medical Hub Combines Efforts of Nine Chicago Institutions

Foundation: Chicago Community Trust

Nine Chicago-area universities and the National Institutes of Health have teamed up to create the Chicago Biomedical Consortium Hub for Innovative Technology and Entrepreneurship in the Sciences, or CBC-HITES, the Chicago Tribune reports.

"The goal is to get innovative treatments from discovery to patient delivery faster, and we needed a way to teach medical inventors about that process," says Satish Nadig, a professor at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, one of the scientists behind the hub.

According to a press release, the CBC-HITES will "foster partnerships between academic inventors and biopharma leaders to develop medical research into commercial products."

Scientists from the University of Chicago, the University of Illinois, the University of Illinois Chicago, the Discovery Partners Institute, Illinois Institute of Technology, Loyola University Chicago, Northern Illinois University, Rosalind Franklin University, and Rush University are involved in the hub, which was funded by the Searle Funds at the Chicago Community Trust, the National Institutes of Health, and the Walder Foundation.
